The Thermal Park and waterfalls of Fayet
Duration: 1 hour 20 mins
Climb: 80 metres
Grade: Family/easy
This easy, family walk in the quiet, leafy Thermal Park is possible all year. The walk starts in the park by the wide footbridge which crosses the Bon Nant Torrent, whose floods can be devastating.
Immediately go left along the Torrent. The path starts to climb. At the first corner, take a left
onto a narrow passageway with well laid out steps and barrier and which leads round sharp bends to the footbridge of the Thermes. The bridge spans the spectacular gorge and from
which you see the Torrent 50 metres below.
After the bridge, leave the path that continues and climb back up for 10 minutes in order to
join up with the higher path for a prettier (but longer) loop. A descending crossing brings
you to the foot of the cliffs used for climbing. Rejoin the large lane that will take you down
and follows a small stream. You will come out on the pretty esplanade with the climbing school
to your left and a forest adventure playground to your right and a bit lower a fountain.
A shortcut will take you down to the main park.
The Plateau de la Croix
Duration: 3 hours 30 mins
Climb: 28 metres
Grade: Easy/intermediate
An enjoyable walk from Le Bettex to the Plan de la Croix that is sometimes in the trees and sometimes looking out onto the magnificent panorama.
The walk starts at the village of Bettex. You get to Bettex by taking the cable up from
St Gervais or by driving. If you are driving park in the car park and head up towards the
cable car and walk up the steps to the side of it.
Take a left at the ESF office in front of the cable car and cross the line of the ski lift to join
up with start of the path.
Join up with the slightly larger path which will soon open out into the middle of some houses. Continue straight on then turn to the right, in a field.
The walk goes between some farms and continues straight on, above Les Communailles.
Follow this pretty path and ignore the various paths to the left and right.
At the hamlet of Longemalle, before a descent, take a right turn into the border of the forest. Climb up a small slope and leave the glade behind you. Cross the path, going straight on
before arriving at two farms in the middle of a meadow.
Continue straight on until the Plateau de la Croix, the road here serves the active farms.
Return by the same route.
Truc and Miage Chalets
Duration: 5 hours
Climb: 650 metres
Grade: Intermediate
A pleasant walk which circumnavigates Mont Truc. Beginning in the forest, the route soon emerges into the meadows around the Truc Chalet, where the welcome and the food dictate a long stop before descending to the Miage valley.
Park at the hamlet of La Gruvaz. A wide track crosses the Miage River and heads into the forest. It goes through the clearing of Maison Neuve and, once again in the forest, goes up right; a very big hairpin leads to the Truc Hut. The route then heads down into the Miage valley and, staying on the left bank of the river, comes out at La Gruvaz.
