The
Chamonix Valley
Located
in the French northern Alps, the Chamonix valley has stunning scenery
and a wide variety of things to do. The valley is 16km long and is home
to 13 ski resorts.
It is only a short drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Courmayer
in Italy.
It has some of the most spectacular scenery in the area with Europe's
highest peak, Mont Blanc, overlooking many of the towns and villages.
The area is famous for the outdoor activities that
it offers. There are over hundreds of kilometres of walking and biking trails (including the Tour
du Mont Blanc), some
of the best skiing in the world, mountaineering and even ice climbing!
Outdoor activities are not the only activities on offer in the valley. There
are museums, markets, shops, a nature reserve, a spa, Europe's highest
cable car and even a glacier to visit.
Should you want to explore further afield there is always the pretty
town of Annecy with its lake, chateau, museum and old town. Or you
could try Geneva, Yvoire or even Courmayer in Italy.

Les Houches is a charming alpine village
that lies at the foot
of Mont Blanc, offering an exceptional panorama of the Mont Blanc massif. The
village has a relaxed atmosphere and is a great base for families.
In the summer there are a huge number of activities -
mountain biking, hiking, climbing, an animal park and even a tree top adventure
park to name but a few.
In winter Les Houches has a very pretty ski
area with night skiing. Its sheltered, tree-lined
pistes are often open when other areas are shut through bad weather. It
has a variety of slopes, for beginners through to advanced skiers and snowboarders,
who can try the famous
"Piste Verte" which is used for the men's World cup downhill
and slalom skiing events. There are also cross country and snowshoeing
trails from Les Houches.
Les Houches has an excellent range of bars and restaurants and with Chamonix
only a few minutes away by bus or car, you will find something to entertain you,
if you have any energy left in the evenings.

Saint Gervais is a beautiful savoyard village with a
friendly atmosphere. It is home
to Europe's highest mountain, Mont Blanc and has been a popular holiday destination
for over a hundred years. There are a number of shops, supermarkets, bars
and restaurants and every Thursday morning there is a market and the village's
main square is a hive of activity. The towns of Megeve and Chamonix are
just a 20 minute drive away should you wish to explore a little further.
St Gervais has a
huge number of activities on offer. It is popular
with walkers and cyclists in the summer -it is one of the starting points for
the Tour du Mont Blanc.
In winter Saint Gervais has a large ski
area (over 400 km) which links to nearby Megeve. The
Mont Blanc Tramway can be taken from Saint Gervais to the Bellevue
plateau (1800m) or the Prarion giving skiers access to the Les Houches
ski area in winter. Or it can be taken by walkers or those just wishing
to see the wonderful panorama in winter or summer.
For those who would like to relax a little St Gervais's famous thermal
parc offers complementary therapies and massage. The village also has
an open air swimming (open June-September), ice rink, tennis courts and mini-golf.

The Grand Massif
The Grand Massif is made up of five linked ski resorts - Flaine, Les
Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns
and Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval. There are hundreds of kilometres of trails
for walking and cycling as well as caving, canyoning, parapenting, climbing
and river sports.

Les Carroz is a beautiful traditional alpine village in the heart of
the Grand Massif mountain range with its' 265 km of piste.
The village is situated at an altitude of 1140m, and the ski area links
with Samoens, Flaine, Morillon and Sixt. The village also
offers hot air ballooning, hang gliding, paragliding, dog sledding, snow
mobiles, snow shoeing, indoor tennis and an ice rink.
Les Carroz is a perfect holiday destination all year round.
The telecabine is open during the summer months, making this a hive of
activity for walking, mountain biking, climbing, parapenting.
Les Carroz has a number of restaurants, cafes and bars set around the
attractive main square. There is even a nightclub, so there is
enough to cater for all tastes and budgets.
